A powerful theatrical journey through the life of Savannah's Greatest Trailblazer: America's First Black Nurse, First Teacher of Freed African-American Children, Author of the Only Civil War Memoir Written by a Black Woman, and First Woman and First Person of Color to have a Savannah Square named for her.

Despite spending more time drunk than sober, Steven McAlister has managed to graduate from college, create an extremely successful theater group, get married, and thrive in a dream job at one of the most prestigious regional theaters in the United States. Sure, it’s gratifying to go to an AA meeting where they reward you with a white chip just for showing up, but does he really have a problem? Even with an ailing father, a marriage on the rocks, and his professional life careening out of control, Steven has a carefully constructed balancing act that keeps it all together—until it all falls apart. Told with humor, honesty, and compassion, The White Chip is about living with addiction and coming alive through recovery.

For nearly 40 years, the stage at Club One has been a home for more than a dozen different performing arts groups, hundreds of performers, thousands of shows, and an impossible to count number of memories. As Club One prepares to move to a new home, the space that made all of those moments possible is taking one last “Curtain Call”! On Saturday, April 18 at 3pm we celebrate the history of the Club One stage with a special tribute that will benefit the Savannah Performance Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and supporting the performing arts in Savannah and the Low Country. This incredible show will feature members of many of the groups that have called the Club One stage their home including the world-famous Ladies of the Club One Cabaret, the Bay Street Theatre, Savannah Cabaret, the Bay Street Bombshells, Tied & Tasseled Fetish Cabaret, and more. It’ll be an afternoon to remember with unforgettable drag numbers, burlesque, variety acts, production numbers, live music, and a very special tribute to the legendary The Lady Chablis who made the stage famous. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Savannah Performance Alliance. Join us an hour before the show for a pre-show party with the cast and share your memories of the Club One stage. Doors open at 2pm.
